Lorsqu\u2019il traduit, un traducteur ne pr\u00eate pas seulement attention \u00e0 ce que la signification d’une phrase dans une langue soit correctement retranscrite dans une autre en fonction de sa connaissance et son domaine d’exp\u00e9rience. Il prend surtout des d\u00e9cisions d’ordre esth\u00e9tique et contextuel.
Comme nous le savons tous, il existe plusieurs fa\u00e7ons de traduire le m\u00eame texte. Le nombre d’options est plus faible pour les th\u00e8mes techniques ou juridiques, mais il augmente consid\u00e9rablement pour des sujets plus g\u00e9n\u00e9raux tels que des documents de marketing.
Un traducteur ne prend pas ces d\u00e9cisions de mani\u00e8re totalement arbitraire : il le fait en fonction des outils que le client lui a fourni, des caract\u00e9ristiques du public cible (lieu, \u00e2ge, statut socio\u00e9conomique, le niveau d’\u00e9ducation, etc.), du texte lui-m\u00eame et de son exp\u00e9rience propre de ce genre de document, en tant que traducteur ou que consommateur.<\/p>\n

Il y a en effet plusieurs traductions possibles d’un texte donn\u00e9 et le traducteur en choisit (doit en choisir) UNE. Cette d\u00e9cision est importante car elle va donner le ton du site web, brochure, rapport ou lettre qu\u2019il traduit.<\/p>\n

Les pr\u00e9f\u00e9rences du client<\/h2>\n

Certains clients donnent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement le document traduit \u00e0 \u00ab quelqu’un qui parle la langue cible \u00bb (j’utilise des guillemets pour indiquer que cette personne peut \u00eatre un expert sur le sujet ou une autre agence, mais le plus souvent il s’agit d’une personne qui a pris un cours de langue, ou qui parlaient la langue \u00e9tant enfant mais ne l’a pas pratiqu\u00e9 pendant des ann\u00e9es, ou dont c\u2019est la langue maternelle des parents, mais il \/ elle ne sait pas conjuguer un verbe correctement). Dans les deux cas, certains clients ont tendance \u00e0 revenir vers le traducteur et lui demander des changements que nous appelons \u00ab pr\u00e9f\u00e9rences \u00bb, telles que \u00ab je pr\u00e9f\u00e8re appeler les jardins de l’h\u00f4tel \u00ab\u00a0parcs\u00a0\u00bb\u00bb ou\u00ab nous allons utiliser \u00ab\u00a0bailar\u00a0\u00bb au lieu de \u00ab\u00a0danzar\u00a0\u00bb\u00bb. Il ya ceux qui disent : \u00ab Je pense que ce sera mieux si nous utilisons le futur et non le pr\u00e9sent \u00bb.<\/p>\n

Est-ce que la traduction aurait pu \u00eatre diff\u00e9rente ? Bien s\u00fbr, c’est toujours le cas, mais n’oubliez pas que le traducteur a d\u00fb prendre une d\u00e9cision quant au style et de s’y tenir tout\u00a0 le long du texte.<\/p>\n

Ces changements peuvent-ils \u00eatre impl\u00e9ment\u00e9s ? Bien s\u00fbr, ils peuvent, du moment qu’ils sont corrects.<\/p>\n

Le probl\u00e8me, c\u2019est que certains clients pensent de cette \u00e9tape est une partie du travail qu’ils ont d\u00e9j\u00e0 pay\u00e9, alors qu’en r\u00e9alit\u00e9 ce ne sont pas des erreurs de traduction, mais des pr\u00e9f\u00e9rences et\u00a0 que le traducteur passera du temps \u00e0 changer des choses sur lesquelles il ne s’\u00e9tait pas tromp\u00e9.
Dans ce cas, c’est une chose d’avoir \u00e0 rechercher et remplacer un mot, et une autre d’avoir \u00e0 changer un temps de verbe, ce qui n\u00e9cessite de modifier le texte en entier.
Est-il acceptable pour le client de demander ce type de changements au traducteur ? Oui, et c’est m\u00eame logique, car il est celui qui conna\u00eet le mieux son propre texte. Mais, le client doit aussi savoir que cela va co\u00fbter des heures de travail, et qu\u2019il va devoir payer pour ces heures.<\/p>\n

Exceptions<\/h2>\n

Certains clients, qui sont pass\u00e9s par l\u00e0 ou qui ont l\u2019habitude de faire appel \u00e0 des services de traduction, exprime leurs pr\u00e9f\u00e9rences (le cas \u00e9ch\u00e9ant) \u00e0 l’avance, avant que le processus de traduction ne commence. Ils peuvent les faire parvenir dans un e-mail, ou sous la forme d’un glossaire complet, qui veut dire \u00ab chaque fois que vous voyez le mot X, je veux que vous le traduisiez par Y \u00bb.
Dans ce cas, le traducteur a les pr\u00e9f\u00e9rences du client \u00e0 port\u00e9e de main pour prendre une d\u00e9cision sur le style, et bien entendu, le client n\u2019a pas payer si le traducteur ne les suit pas mot pour mot et doit r\u00e9viser le travail.
C\u2019est pourquoi il est conseill\u00e9 de continuer \u00e0 travailler avec l\u2019agence avec laquelle vous avez une bonne communication. C’est comme aller \u00e0 un restaurant auquel vous allez souvent, et quand vous entrez, le serveur vous demande \u00ab Qu’est-ce que vous prenez aujourd\u2019hui, comme d’habitude ?
