DiffDog: Comparison of Files and Documents

Quite often, we work with documents or files that are  almost identical or very similar to ones we have worked on in the past. For moments like this, it is essential to have a tool that allows you to visualize the differences between them.

So I would like to give you a brief summary of one of these tools, DiffDog 2010, which is easy to use and allows you to clearly visualize the differences between the documents or files you need to compare.

Altova DiffDog 2010 is a great ability to compare and merge text files in a really quick and easy manner.

This tool lets you compare and merge any kind of text-based file, with support for Unicode, ASCII, MBCS and any other file format. In addition, it should be noted that it can provide an advanced comparison for XML.

To select the files, just drag and drop files from your browser. In addition, this tool remembers recently compared pairs of directories and files and allows to reopen a recent comparison with a single click.

If desired, DiffDog can be integrated with Windows Explorer, so that two files or folders are selected in Explorer, and then right clicked to launch a new comparison directly from the Explorer context menu.

When you select two files to compare, they open a side by side in parallel and the differences between the two are indicated with connecting lines and highlighted in colors, so you can immediately see the differences between the two versions of files, which is very useful to quickly see the differences that we need to know.

The display options are fully customizable and the program also has advanced navigation features such as horizontal and vertical sync display, which allow you to move through any of the files without losing track of the corresponding differences in the other.

One positive point is that Diffdog also automatically creates a backup of each file, so that if for whatever reason you need a fresh start, the original file is reloaded from the server or disk at any time. Moreover, while working on a file, this tool constantly monitors the server that stores the file, so if it is changed externally, the latest version is are reloaded in the window of comparison.
Such tools are very useful to us to speed up translation time and ensure consistency of terminology in documents that are clearly similar, which means they are important tools in our daily work.
